Biography

With a career spanning almost 25 years in the fashion industry, Edi Sessi is now one of Benin’s hottest fashion houses. Ms. Sessi, whose real name is Edith Bidossessi Daassounon, is the figure behind this emblematic brand. « Fashion, more than a profession, is a passion born of dissatisfaction », in her own words. It was on her birthday that Ms. Sessi, then aged 16, ordered an outfit from her local tailor. After many explanations, the tailor was unable to meet her request. The young girl finally gave up and decided to make her own clothes.

It was only after a second year in Legal Sciences at the University of Abomey Calavi that the designer threw herself entirely into Couture. Her career began with the « Windiya » fashion show in 1997, in which she exhibited her outfits on a T for the first time. The show was a success, and the rafia- and ecru-based garments were all the rage, earning her plaudits from the audience. Over the course of her career, Ms. Sessi took part in numerous fashion shows: Fesmma, Afrik fashion, Elima, Bimod, Ressort de la créativité, Folie de mode and others.

A relentless and passionate designer, she works to offer elegant and sophisticated couture to African women for their special occasions. Positioning herself as a luxury brand, she offers top-quality customer service and finished products. For her, customer contact is the foundation of every creation. Getting to know them and their tastes so that the garment feels like a second skin.

Since 2014, La maison Edi Sessi has set itself another challenge: to satisfy women’s everyday needs. To offer contemporary collections in local materials to accompany the lives of the women, and soon men, of this century. The Go, Kadara Mi and Hunhle collections are all designed for modern women who are proud of their origins.

Beyond her soul as a designer, Edi Sessi is also a lover of art and culture. Combining her passions for a single objective: to reveal Benin to the world and enable a leading and autonomous Africa.

Dreamy, self-taught, rigorous and visionary, Edi Sessi embodies more than just a fashion house: she’s a lifestyle.
